Brr it’s cold outside! Fall/Winter has finally hit North Texas and I could not be happier.  I don’t have to turn on my air conditioner today and can even wear long sleeves.  It’s also my college’s rival football game today (GO BOBCATS!) so I am desperately searching for an online source to get a local Montana channel…wish me luck.

Who is ready to bind this quilt? I know I am!  Let’s get started…

Hi Everyone!  All of us put a lot of hard work into our craft and we should be signing it similar to how a painter signs their canvas. That’s where a quilt label comes in handy and is essential in finishing off your quilt.  Here is a quick DIY label tutorial for you!

Quilting from ‘Square’ One – QUILTING!!!

Charm Pack Quilts/ Quilting from 'square' one

Hey Y’all! Well, the rain has begun here in north Texas so that can only mean one thing; fall is here!  We can finally catch up to the rest of the country and pull out our sweaters, and boots…even if they are rain boots.  I am so excited for apple cider, pot pies and all things fall.  I would also like to thank you all for being patient with me this week.  I know I’m a bit tardy on this post, no excuses, just bit a little more off than I can chew. But the good news is I’m getting caught up which means we get to QUILT today! Yay!

I contemplated a write up on this one, but honestly, I think it’s easier and more self explanatory to watch the video. If you have any questions at all please do not hesitate in reaching out.

Here are links to the items we used today –

Next week we’ll be going over binding and some tips and tricks with that….and once that’s done you can cuddle under your very own hand made quilt. Just in time for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

p.s. I’m going to add a special bonus post next week…(think quilt label)

Until next time; Happy Quilting!

Happy Saturday Everyone! I’m busily filming and quilting for our Sew-A-Long and a new post will be out later today or early tomorrow.  First, however, I wanted to let everyone know about our next Block of the Month which will start on December 1st, 2016. I’m super excited about this one.  It’s using another Pam and Nicky Lintott pattern called Tea for Two and Captivate by Alisse Courter for Camelot Fabrics.  This is a hexi made easy quilt too! Have a look and click here or on any of the photos to learn more or to sign up.  This one is going to be so much fun!

Quilting from ‘Square’ One – Backing, Basting, Pinning

Charm Pack Quilts/ Quilting from 'square' one

Happy Day Everyone!

Today we’re going to go over how to make your backing, spray the batting to the front and back as well as pin for quilting.  I’m going to be honest here…this is my LEAST favorite part of the quilt making process.  I think it’s because now we’re dealing with yards of fabric and not small blocks.  It can become a circus to try to tackle it all.  Likewise, I have a dog and a cat who have sixth sense about quilts and always need to get in the middle of the process.  I’ll add a cute ‘outtake’ below so you can see what I’m talking about.  Okay enough babbling…as I said least favorite, but with these techniques it should be fairly painless.  What do ya say? Let’s get started!

Quilting from ‘Square’ One – Sewing the Final Squares

Charm Pack Quilts/ Quilting from 'square' one

Hey Everyone!

I’m so sorry I am late with this post. The truth is, even I get overwhelmed at times.  This overwhelmed feeling got me thinking that maybe some of you are trying to keep up with the speed of this sew along and, quite frankly, it’s too fast.  Because of this revelation I’ve decided to slow it down a bit.  Now, if you are on a deadline and needing to get this project finished next week please send me a note and we’ll work something out on the side.  For everyone else, use this week to catch up!

Here’s the only video for this post. It shows you how to put the final squares together.

If you get ambitious you can put the entire front together as well. Just follow how we read when assembling; left to right, top to bottom.

Happy Quilting!

Quilting from ‘Square’ One – Nesting, Sewing and Cutting!

Bed Sized Quilts/ Charm Pack Quilts/ Quilting from 'square' one

quilting-from-square-one-1

Hey Everyone!

Welcome to week two of Quilting from ‘Square’ One – Disappearing 9-Patch! How did week one go?  Hopefully smoothly and y’all are pumped to put these sets of three together.  What do ya say; let’s jump right in!

This week we are going to go over the art of nesting seams, sewing the 9-patches together, cutting the 9-patches apart for your surprise block and then finally the final layout of your quilt.

Step 1 – Nesting Seams.  I’ve been talking about this and talking about this, now we get to put it into action! Below you will see our three lovely rows that we have sewn together in anticipation of this ‘nesting’ moment.  Hopefully you’ve sewn all of your groupings of three together and are excited for this next step. Did you happen to catch my bonus video on YouTube? It’s all about chain piecing so if you are a little behind it is definitely a good watch and will speed up your process immensely. Okay back to business…let’s combine these three patches into nine shall we?

Quilting from ‘Square’ one – Disappearing 9-Patch – Week 1 – 1/4″, the dark side and straight lines…

Bed Sized Quilts/ Charm Pack Quilts/ Layer Cake Quilts/ Quilting from 'square' one
quilting-from-square-one-1

Hi Everyone & welcome to WEEK 1 of Quilting from ‘Square’ One-

Are you more nervous or excited or an eclectic combination of both!?!  Well, don’t be nervous….this is fun stuff!  Here’s how we’re going to break down this crazy hobby called quilting.  This week we will be going to go over basic items like machine basics, the right and wrong side of fabric, why an accurate 1/4″ is important and how you’ll be sewing together your first block set.  You can watch the video snip-its for information as well as follow along with the written instructions.

Please reach out if you are lost or would like to as a question.  I’m here to help!

Machine Basics: Make sure you have 2 wound bobbins of a ‘mostly’ matching thread color. Most people use white or black. Since most of our kits have white center blocks you’ll want to use white thread.  Coats & Clark is a basic beginner brand that is affordable and an all around easy every day thread.

If you are new to your machine or haven’t used it in awhile I highly suggest running a few test stitches through your machine before getting started.  This will help you feel more comfortable when you start on your real blocks and will allow you to adjust any tension issues you may run into.  Since everyone probably has a different machine I will direct you to you individual machine manual should you have mechanical issues.
